There have been numerous challenges that the U.S. information technology (IT) industry encountered in efforts to acquire qualified professionals to work for them, and this has forced many IT companies to continue outsourcing or hiring professionals from other countries. Despite high prospects and above-average pay associated with IT careers, there has been at least a two-decade slump in the number of students pursuing careers in IT within the United States. In the Asia-Pacific Rim, on the other hand, in countries including China, Taiwan, Singapore, and Malaysia, the IT industry has grown substantially due to the availability of skilled human resources and high-quality education systems. This dichotomy underlines the contrast in IT job trends in the United States and the Asia-Pacific. Studies that focus on the relationship between job satisfaction of IT professionals are abundant. However, at this juncture, no study has been conducted to compare job satisfaction among IT professionals internationally. This paper is the first to unveil whether job satisfaction disparities exist and, if it does exist, to what extent, among IT professionals in the United States, Malaysia, and Singapore by using eight independent variables.

This article describes a real human performance technology intervention. The author was personally involved in this intervention (Rothwell, 1990). It tells his personal story about how he “backed into” performance technology as a field of practice. What follows is a case study that accurately describes what happened, though the names were changed to protect the innocent and the guilty. The case is presented in part as dialogue to make the presentation more dramatic. While the dialogue is not exactly the same as in the real case, the dialogue closely resembles the wording as the events unfolded. The case illustrates how important is the role of supervisors, managers, and executives in shaping employees and performance (Bakhshandeh et al., 2024; Rothwell et al., 2023).

Maturity models have served as significant tools for organizations to evaluate and improve processes and performance across various domains. These models generally define levels of progression from initial or ad hoc processes to optimized, well-managed levels. The growing influence of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies has reshaped how maturity models are developed, implemented, and improved. This paper explores the impacts of AI on the creation and evolution of maturity models. Current technological trends accelerate model customization, increase predictive accuracy, and enable real-time feedback loops. The analysis identifies two foundational models and an example of the evolution through the fourth industrial revolution. This exploration further identifies the implications for software development and manufacturing industries to focus on how AI technologies can help organizations assess their current maturity and predict the steps needed to reach higher levels of performance. This work serves as the first part in a series that addresses human-centric AI in the development of maturity models.
