IN THIS SECTION, Dr. Judith Hale interviews International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI) Members so that readers can learn about colleagues. She is featuring a new member (an emerging or reemerging professional), along with a notable long-term member of the Society. Rose Baker serves on the ISPI Board of Directors, as our treasurer, and as the associate editor for Performance Improvement Quarterly (PIQ). John Turner serves as editor-in-chief for PIQ and also serves on ISPI’s Publications Committee.

What attracted you to Performance Improvement (PI)/Human Performance Technology (HPT)/the ISPI?

I have always looked

Sales performance improvement (SPI) is a systematic approach to improving selling productivity and salesperson competence in order to accomplish organizational goals effectively, efficiently, and ethically. This methodology originated from the performance improvement literature and was derived from managerial practices. Using this structured method, sales managers are able to assess multidimensional sales performance, identify sales performance gaps and pain points, analyze causes of performance issues, develop appropriate strategic solutions, and evaluate the impacts of the changes. The eight-step SPI helps sales managers in their continuous endeavor to improve sales performance in order to achieve goals at individual, departmental, and organizational levels. When sales managers use SPI properly, they are able to contribute to their organizations positively, meaningfully, and significantly. Organizations can gain sustainable competitive advantages when the SPI is implemented throughout the organizations.

This paper highlights an effective model for evaluating geriatric workforce enhancement professional development programs, using multiple methodologies (i.e., quantitative and qualitative). An adaptation of Kirkpatrick's (1994; 2010) model of evaluation was implemented to assess the evidence-based fall prevention program delivered at a Program for All Inclusive Care for the Elderly site. The purpose of this paper is to describe the program's design, data collection activities and instruments, and findings, and also suggest strategies for successfully replicating the approach.

This article provides a new perspective on organizational change by utilizing the substrate-independence theory. The substrate-independence theory utilizes constructor theory from the field of physics, concepts from information theory, and counterfactuals from science to identify, map, and address organizational change. The concepts presented in the current article highlight the initial steps in mapping one's landscape that include the environment and its constraints and barriers. These maps become information in real-time that aid organizational leaders and practitioners navigate ambiguity and complexity. The substrate-independence theory adds to the field of sense-making to help close the gap between the unknown and the known.
