TURNING THE PAGE
A welcome change to the seasons has arrived, as autumn has come and gone, offering us some much appreciated respite from this year’s severe summer heatwaves. Now, winter is helping us greet the new year. The countless cycles of the seasons over millennia also help to remind us of the limited time we each have to convey our life’s purpose and to hopefully deliver a benefit to the world around us.
MY THOUGHTS…
As the year comes to a close, reflecting on what has been accomplished always helps me to put things in perspective. Our work at ISPI has continued to engage and revitalize our membership. From our annual conference and professional development offerings to our website and our publications, all have been updated and improved. Each member of our dedicated Board of Directors has taken a slice of the work necessary to move us forward. I continue to be humbled and honored to have the privilege of serving with such consummate professionals. I am truly grateful for this incredible opportunity to serve our Society. With that said, here is a quick synopsis of what you will find in this issue of Performance Improvement Journal.
Michael Frino writes, “You’re the Meaning in My Life, You’re the Inspiration: Trust Me! There’s Brilliance behind Chicago’s Words” to emphasize that an organization has a responsibility to its stakeholders to create an environment in which its employees have rich, meaningful interactions and work.
In my article, “Case Study as a Qualitative Research Methodology”, I share the definition of case study as a qualitative research methodology as an instance in which it is appropriate to employ a case study in research. I analyzed two research case studies that are pertinent to mentoring and coaching approaches as well as their practices.
Kushal Sharma, Umanand Kumar, and Anjali Upadhyay offer “Root Causes of Misroll in Rerolling Mills”, which discusses the major issues that lead to misroll and cobble in rerolling mills. These issues were identified via a shop floor analysis and a records review at an iron and steel rerolling mill. After the identification of the root causes of misroll, solutions are suggested.
Fang Fang shares “Big Data Analytics of the COVID-19 Impact on Online Lodging Reviews”, which uses a lodging platform’s big data to investigate the factors that were associated with consumers’ reviews during the pandemic. A univariate analysis was conducted, and a fixed effects model was specified. The profound implications brought by COVID-19 required online booking platforms to seek ways to improve their customers’ satisfaction to survive. The key was to understand the new needs and requirements for travelers during COVID-19.
Last, we once again are offered the opportunity to “Know Your Colleagues”. Yvon Dalat and Peter Baverso are highlighted in this issue.
Looking forward to seeing all of you at this year’s ISPI Annual Conference. Registration information is below.
